I'm hoping to catch some of the penumbra, but probably won't be able to. The eclipse itself is mostly going to be focused up north. Is anyone on here able to see it? (And once it's happened, was it neat/did you take pictures?) NASA article and Wiki entryETA: So I got to thinking, I know VH and Buffyverse (I'm thinking toward the end of Angel?) have solar eclipses mentioned somewhat prominently. Those are the only two that I know of off the top of my head. Are there other shows that use solar eclipses?

Now then - I did a little research for ya, folks. Some of these are not TV shows but do include vampires and Solar Eclipses.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
The Solar Eclipse is the catalyst or soemthing for the Mayor's ascention to his demon form on Graduation Day.
Vampire High
Obviously the Great Eclipse (I guess we can safely assume twas a solar one) during which the Elders and the Fury were hacking away at each other on a battlefield somewhere.
From Dusk 'Til Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money
The epic shootout at the end is aided by the convenient presence of a solar eclipse.
Vampires: The Turning
I've not seen this, the third in John Carpenter's Vampire films (the first being "John Carpenters Vampires" starring the wonderful James Woods; the second is "Vampires: Los Muertos" with Jon Bon Jovi in the lead!) but apparently a vampire warlord is awakened from his slumber by, you guessed it, a solar eclipse. Cheers to the IMDb for the info!
I'm sure there are others, but I'll have to get back to ya on this laters. Time for this little vamp to retire for the night - work tomorn!
Enjoy! 'Lissa.

Neato! Thanks, Melissa.
I've never actually noticed that they don't specifically say solar eclipse in the VH opening. I guess it was just sort of obvious that a lunar eclipse wouldn't really affect anything like a solar one would so far as big battles go.
I had also completely forgotten about the Mayor's transformation on Graduation Day. Sad, since I only just recently watched the first few seasons of Buffy.
John Carpenter sounds familiar, as far as his name goes. Looking into it, he also did Halloween and In the Mouth of Madness, both of which I liked (and he used Lovecraft references, so yay). Kind of B-rated stuff, methinks, but that just makes me like them more.
I've never seen or even heard of the other movie, but I know I'll definitely be checking out at least one of them.
