For the uninitiated, "My Name Is Earl" is about a petty thief and general bad egg named...wait for it...Earl! Then, one day he wins a lot of money....and is promptly hit by a car as he celebrates (which is funnier seen than told, like the entire series)! While recovering in hospital, he decides that karma was paying him back for what he did wrong. He decides to write a list of all the bad things he did then set them right and balance out karma. Which, as Earl and his brother, Randy, prove time and again is sometimes easier said than done!
Gawd, I love this show! I haven't managed to see all the episodes thanks to my working an odd shift but the ones I have seen have been hilarious!
Its got a subtle humour beneath the sometimes outrageous plots and its guaranteed to put a smile on your face! Well, mine, anyway! Hehe! ;D
The entire cast plays it straight, which makes the twists and turns of Earl's Karmic journey that much more entertaining. And there's also a note of seriousness underneath but its never, ever hammered home like some other series' tend to do from time to time.
And the best part is, besides knowing a little about the characters and Earl's famous list, anyone can drop in on it and enjoy - each episode stands alone. An unmarketted gem, this one.
The three main characters besides Earl that you'd meet in most eps are:
-Randy, Earl's younger brother who is easily led and a little lacking in brains. He's sweet, though, and his intention are good - usually!
-Joy, Earl's ex-wife who lies at a trailer park. She's brash, tough and, boy, is she opinionated!
-Darnell, aka "The Crabman", is Joy's new husband, an extremely afro-ed black man and completely hilarious, and father of at least one of her children (though don't tell her parents 'cause they think she's still married to Earl despite Joy having one white child and one black.)
If you're in the UK, its on E4 at 10pm Thursdays and repeated at 2:30am Friday morning and Sunday at 11pm on the same channel. And hey, E4 recently became a freeview channel so BONUS!
Please, give yourself a treat on Thursdays and watch it! And you can hang me upside down by my little vampire bootees if you don't like it! *lmao*
