The place is called Shayton. I think it is Vampire Fantasy, like the "Nomads of Gor" book series. I have to check it out more... There was a whole "Gor" book series that was pretty good back in the day! There was the "Outlaws of Gor", "Priest Kings of Gor", etc...

Well, as the author, I am biased, but yeah they are interesting. Definitely not for kids, they follow the struggles of Talkar, a male in a world where the women are in control, or so they think. A mixture of science fi and fantasy, they have moments of humour, dread and sheer chutzbah.
