Well, I actually started watching this series only for the episodes where Joris makes an appearance, but I'm beginning to really enjoy it. Its refreshing!
For anyone who hasn't heard of this series, its based on the true story of a woman named Sue Thomas (Deanne Bray) who joins the FBI. Not different from the norm, eh? Wrong! Sue is a remarkable lady who has worked her way through the ranks of the FBI despite being deaf from the age of 1 1/2yr. Sue and her hearing dog, Levi (a gorgeous golden retriever) are assigned to an office and they meet a mixed reception. Some members of the team go all out to make her feel welcome, but others do their best to get her fired.
The reason I say this series is refreshing is that its not all "blood and thunder" like most FBI-based series'. Now this could be because the series is Canadian which means the focus is on characterisation, not melodramatics. But I think it also has to do with a bigger picture of acceptance and adapting to those with different abilities.
There's a lot of subtle characterisation, especially the ways in which Sue wins over her less co-operative workmates is wonderful and so, when there are moments of danger, you really care what happens to them.
The series also has the obligatory "will they, won't they, eyes meeting across a crowded room" thing with one of Sue's male co-workers, Jack (Yannick Bisson). And I'm also starting to appreciate the, ahem, view provided by the Australian agent, Bobby (Rick Peters). ;D
There are some genuinely funny moments (the majority of which feature Special Agent Myles Leland III who is so full of himself, its fun watching his friends bring him down a peg or two! *lol* Brilliantly played by Ted Atherton - I think he might be related to the actor William "Ghostbusters" Atherton since he has a look of him. But, this is only a suspicion of mine.)
Heh! Oh, and the reason for this post? Well, one of the episodes in which Joris features (2:6 "Bad Hair Day") is on in the UK, on the Hallmark Channel (Sky channel 153) on Thursday 8th June. The episode shows at 11am and 8pm. The other one (though his presence in 2-11 "The Mentor" is not for definite) should be on the same channel on Tuesday 20th June. And, if he is in it, screencaps (of perhaps questionable quality, unfortunately) will be available! *lol*
Yes, I am obsessed! ;D Woohoo!
'Lissa.
