Chapter 3
Other places, other rules
Other places, other rules
“I’ll take the deal” said Drew.
“Of course you will” laughed Lord Shakari.
Drew felt like crap, he just let himself become the Fury, and yet he also felt full of bliss and hope. He just remembered something, Mansbridge! “Oh No!”
He started to pace back and forth without realizing it! “Drew stop pacing and hold out your arm” said Lord Shakari with a sight of angry.
“Why?” Drew put his arms behind his back.
“Just do it now”
“Not until you answer my question”
Lord Shakari pulled out an iron bar that flared red with its intense heat. “What’s that for?” asked Drew.
“It’s the symbol of the Fury, hold out your arm now”
“Do I have a choice?”
“No, not really, hold out your arm now”
Drew did as he was told and Lord Shakari put the hot iron on Drew’s arm a little above his elbow. Drew felt like screaming his lungs out, but held it back. After Lord Shakari was done he laughed. “What’s so funny?” asked Drew, grabbing his arm in pain.
“I’m waiting for the all powerful Elders to come help you” laughed Lord Shakari.
Drew, for some reason didn’t care about anything that happened today. “So…how do I get out of here?” asked Drew.
Suddenly dark, black smoke surrounded Drew, and all he knew was that he was in the cage. He felt a sudden swoosh and the smoke cleared and he was right outside the cage and looking straight in to Lord Shakari’s pale face. “H-How did you do that?” asked Drew completely amazed.
“It is one of the many things I can teach you”
“You can teach me that?”
“Only if you promise to be loyal to me”
“Loyal? I’m no dog”
“Then I guess our deal is off, no come back of little miss Sherry”
“Fine, fine, I’ll do whatever you want” said Drew sadly.
“Excellent, now come with me” instructed Lord Shakari.
Drew followed his new teacher up the hallway and out of the dark, dank room and into a room that had no windows, the floor was wooden and the walls were all stone and dark. “Welcome to our training facility” said Lord Shakari.
Drew looked around. There weren’t a lot of people there. Some were talking with others, and some were practicing things Drew has never seen before. “Rebecca Michael, get over here” instructed Lord Shakari.
A girl walked over to Lord Shakari and kneeled before him. “What can I do, my lord?” said the girl.
Rebecca had long curly brown hair and freckles all over her face. She had a blue blouse with ruffled sleeves and a long white skirt.
Drew chuckled. “This is Drew, show him what to do, or I’ll have your head” shouted Lord Shakari.
“Yes, my lord” said Rebecca getting up.
Lord Shakari left the room. “Hi” said Drew.
Rebecca looked at him with a blank face. “Why are you here?” she asked.
“Why do you care?” asked Drew, crossing his arms.
“Never mind” Rebecca said. “So, are you hungry?”
“Starving” answered Drew.
“Then come with me” Rebecca pulled Drew’s arm and they exited the room and into the musty hallway.
“Where are we going?” asked Drew, following Rebecca into a huge cavy looking room.
“Hunting” laughed Rebecca; her laugh was beautiful, like a cross between an angel’s harp and a siren’s song.
They climbed up a long row of old wooden stairs and out of two wooden cellar doors. “Hunting?” asked Drew pulling his arm away.
“Ya, you know hunting, it’s not that hard to figure out” laughed Rebecca. “What’s wrong? It’s like you haven’t had blood in centuries”
“It’s not that, I just haven’t killed someone in awhile” Drew said scratching his head.
“What!” laughed Rebecca. “That’s ridiculous, how the heck did you survive?”
“Well we got our blood from blood packs”
“What do you mean “we”” asked Rebecca.
Drew suddenly realized what he said. Now she’s gonna bug me forever, thought Drew.
“Nah, I may just bug you for a little while” laughed Rebecca.
“Did I say that out loud” asked Drew.
“No, I can read minds”
“How ironic” Drew whispered to himself.
“What?”
“Nothing!” Drew answered quickly.
“Well you know what, I’m hungry let’s go!”
“Where?”
“Town, I heard from the raisin vine that there was gonna be a midnight madness sale there, not to mention the parties that will be happening”
“Wait, what’s the raisin vine” asked Drew.
“You know it’s like the grape vine, but raisin, mainly because raisins are all shriveled up and aren’t very lively looking and grapes are, and in my eyes raisins mostly resemble us vampires”
“How creative”
“Now let’s go to town”
They ran over and saw millions of people there. Drew felt a pull inside him, one he hadn’t felt in centuries, the pull for fresh blood. The odd thing is he didn’t want to leave for Mansbridge at all. “Come on I know a bar it’s always hopping with people” said Rebecca.
They walked over to a large building, the sign on the outside door said: 17 or younger? You’ll be taking a kick out the door. MUST HAVE I.D.
“Do you have any I.D.” asked Drew.
“Nope, but I can get in, you stay out here I’ll take a get someone out for us” said Rebecca entering the bar.
“Now’s my chance, I can get out of here” said Drew. He started to walk away when he remember something. Sherry, I can get her back, thought Drew. But what will I have to do in between?
* * * * * *
Rebecca saw a large man standing before her. “Have any I.D. little lady?” asked the man.
Her voice went into a strange whisper. “You don’t need any I.D.”
“You don’t need any I.D.” repeated the man in a trance.
Rebecca moved to a booth in the corner and looked out the window. She saw Drew, waiting for her. Wow he is so cute, I love his cool side burns, thought Rebecca. If only I could get him to stop thinking about that Sherry girl! Maybe I can find a spell in Lord Shakari’s black magic book. But alas… he will be mine.
Rebecca scanned the room. She eyed two guys one with an orange t-shirt and one with a blue t-shirt sitting on stools beside the bartender. She attempted to read their minds. First she did the one wearing the orange t-shirt. Wow that girl over there is so hot, but once I talk to her Paul with his so-called sensitivity will get her for sure.
Now the other. I bet I can get any girl in this bar, I mean look at me I’m sexy.
“Pathetic” laughed Rebecca, her stomach growled. “They’ll have to do though”
She walked over to them and sat on the stool beside the orange shirted one. “Hi” she said.
“H-Hi” said the guy. “I’m Jason”
“I’m Rebecca”
The guy in the blue shirt walked up beside her. “I’m Paul”
“Hi” said Rebecca.
“So what brings you over here?” asked Jason.
“Ordering a drink” laughed Rebecca.
“Oh” said Jason sadly.
“I need to go to the little boy’s room for a second, be back” said Paul heading towards the washrooms.
“And there was a cute boy over here too” Rebecca giggled.
Oh my god, what a dork, but he’ll be good for Drew and me, thought Rebecca coldly.
She chuckled to herself quietly. “Hey I hear there’s an awesome burger place a few blocks down, want to go?” asked Rebecca hopefully.
“Well I’m not sure, I mean, what about Paul?”
Rebecca made the same whisper that she made with the guy at the door. “Never mind Paul, I’ll go”
“Never mind Paul, I’ll go” repeated Jason in a trance.
“Perfect, let’s go” laughed Rebecca.
They both walked out of the bar, and as they did Rebecca saw Drew. She had her arm around Jason’s as they walked. Drew stayed close by. They walked about a 2 blocks when Rebecca eyed a narrow alley. Perfect, she thought
“Come on, let’s cut through this alley, it’ll be quicker” said Rebecca.
“I don’t know, it’s pretty dark down there” said Jason peering down the long narrow alley way.
“Are you scared?” asked Rebecca as she gave him a grin.
“No way, let’s go”
They were about half way when Rebecca slammed Jason against the hard brick wall with mighty strength and whispered in his ear. “You know, I would be very, very scared”
Drew came up beside her and smiled an evil smile, and Jason looked at him with terror in his big brown eyes. “Are you people from the mob?” asked Jason, almost scared to death.
“Oh we’re much worse than that, much, much worse” laughed Rebecca, and showed her fangs and her blood red eyes.
Drew laughed and did the same. He didn’t care if he killed him, he didn’t care if he ever saw his friends at Mansbridge again, he didn’t care...about Sherry. They went for the neck but for some reason they had to back away. “Why can’t we get at him?” insisted Rebecca, with a trickle of drool in the corner of her mouth.
Jason was breathing really hard. He went to scream but couldn’t get anything out.
They turned their attention back to their prey. Rebecca tried to read his mind, but couldn’t get anything. “Why can’t we get at you!” demanded Rebecca, still able to hold the quivering snack in her cold pale hands.
Jason didn’t answer. He had no pulse, he died of fright, and instead he just hung there.
“Dang it!” cursed Rebecca, dropping him to the ground. “I don’t understand how come we couldn’t get at him?”
When she dropped him they noticed a little silver chain with a silver cross come out of his shirt. Rebecca growled at him. “Of course, I should have known”
“Well let’s go get another one there’s probably a few hours left until the sun comes up” said Drew.
“I’m sure your right” said Rebecca.
“What do we do about the body?” asked Drew.
“Nothing, there are no puncture wounds in his neck so there is nothing to be worried about” said Rebecca.
“But won’t it be suspicious when they find a body there?”
“Who cares? Drew, you’re a worry wart” laughed Rebecca.
“Maybe” laughed Drew.
They were making their way out of the alley when let start hearing something. “Jason, Jason where are you dude?” it called.
It was Paul, and he was slowly making his way over to the alley. The alley where Jason’s lifeless body lies, the alley where the blood thirsty vampires hide in the shadows.
