Heroes is a show about people with special abilities - mind reading, controlling time, telekenesis (my favourite), imperviousness, among others. Even though they have these superhero type powers, it's not about them doing good deeds and saving people. It's more about their lives and how they're trying to deal with the effects of these abilities.
They are all over the United States, but are linked - by Isaac Mendez, who paints the future; by Mohinder Suresh, whose father was the genetesist who discovered the genetic factor which is inherant in all who have these abilities; by a simple task - 'save the cheerleader, save the world', and by Sylar, a serial killer, who is targetting anyone with an ability.
Each episode is a new chapter, and every episode ends on a cliffhanger that has me howling for the next ep. We're on chapter 12 (Godsend) on Monday, the States are on chapter 20 (String Theory), I believe, also on Monday. It started out fascinating and seems to have just gone into overdrive in the past few episodes. It's like the first couple of eps were the getting to know you period, now everyone has been turned loose. It's really quite exciting. Everything else has been relegated - I've missed Prison Break (Mondays are new episodes) and Desperate Housewives (Wednesdays are the first repeats) since I started watching.
Adrian Pasdar is the only cast member I was really familiar with, although I recognised Jack Coleman (he was in Kingdom Hospital) and Hayden Panattiere (from the movie Joe Somebody).
But, of course, I've pretty much fallen in love with most of the cast. In particular, Zachary Quinto as Sylar, and Masi Oka as Hiro Nakamura.
I'm looking forward to the DVD release - watching all 23 episodes back to back is going to be sweet! Also, NBC have put up a killer website with loads of cool videos and photos. There are commentaries on there, but I have resisted so as not to spoil too much of what will happen - the photos I can't resist though. I need my Zach Quinto fix with increasing regularity!
Great cast, great performances, really great scripts. At last, some really top notch TV, and it looks set to last too. Now is a good time to start watching - I believe that SciFi are doing a catch up all this week.
