first post ;D
It was a normal night in Mansbridge School. All the day school students had returned for the next semester and were all asleep in their rooms. Meanwhile down in the cellar, the night school students were just about to begin a new lesson. The five of them sat at the table in the middle of the room. All having their blood packs waiting on Dr. Murdoch to tell them tonight’s task. Drew sat at the table staring into the middle of the table when he was really looking in Dillan’s room watching her sleep. Dillan was almost turned into a vampire when she was bitten by Karl who was manipulated by a rogue vampire. Drew watched as her chest slowly raised and lowered as she steadily breathed in and out. He wondered what she was dreaming about. He knew it couldn’t be about him as Essie had erased any memories of that night he stayed with her after she was bitten. But still he watched her even though it could never be; he had learned this from past experience with Sherry. As Drew watched Dillan, Merrill watched Drew. She stared at him in an almost worshipping gaze. She knew she should get over him and move on but her heart wouldn’t allow her. She has believed he is her ‘one’ ever since they met. She thought their destinies were entwined so much that she wished Sherry dead and coincidently she died not long after. Merrill has the ability to read mind’s and enter people’s dreams, she allowed Drew to enter Sherry’s dreams once and he nearly did serious emotional harm to her but managed to correct his mistake in time. Merrill thought about reading Drew’s mind but thought she wouldn’t spoil the moment. While she was looking at Drew Marty was looking at her. Marty, the clown of the group the free spirit, puts up a front for everyone to see except Merrill. He watched her gaze at Drew he wanted to grab Drew by the throat and break his neck in three places and nail him to a silver cross and stick him up in the garden outside and wait for the sun to reduce him to ashes. He knew Merrill had uncontrollable feelings for Drew but longed for them to be for him. The one night they were allowed out since the experiment had started Merrill stayed behind to practice her writing so he stayed behind as well to try and connect to her with no chance of Drew showing up. Only to nearly starve to death and in the process nearly feed on Merrill herself and then a day school student. But he managed to contain himself and allowed Merrill to feed on him to survive. He thought this would bring them closer together and it did just not in the way he hoped. They still on occasion played the piano together but that was it. Whilst this was all unfolding Essie the beautiful blonde watched all three of them imagining what would happen next and no matter how she went over it in her head someone would always get hurt. Essie was of royal blood and a vampire family, she spent her days designing clothes or trying to persuade Dr. Murdoch to allow her to take Merrill on a shopping spree and teach her the meaning of fashion. With her power of persuasion Essie could get allot of things she wanted but her powers never worked on Dr. Murdoch for some reason. She could still beat Karl at chess with her powers but that’s all the use she had for them. She had a deep meaningful relationship with Karl until Karl wanted more and nearly ended up killing him. She still remembers how he was ready to give up his life when she was about to die. This showed her how much he cared for her but he still was not the ‘one’. Essie remembered this and turned to look at Karl and was surprised to when she turned her head he was staring right at her. Karl was the youngest of the group. He was only made a year before he had joined the experiment and had only killed one person. But nearly killed his best friends from his human life, and with a bit of manipulation nearly killed Dylan. He was also visited by his little sister and helped to give her closure with a hand from Essie. Karl had feelings for Essie still but knew nothing could ever happen between them. That didn’t stop him from imagining. He was thinking about all the good times with Essie when she turned to face him which brought him out of his daydream. They both darted their heads in the opposite direction as they turned back to say something when they heard the cellar door open and someone started walking down. They all could see even in the dark it was Dr. Murdoch. He walked towards the table they were all sitting at wearing one of his normal suits. He removed his jacket and hung it on the back of a chair.
“Did everybody have a pleasant night then?” he asked
“It was pleasant” replied Merrill
“No bad” said Karl
“I dreamt about shoes” Essie answered with a smile.
“I dreamt about a girl” Marty said with a sly smile
Drew grunted what sounded like an okay.
“Good, because we’ve got a lot of work to get done” as he said this he picked up the remote on the table and with the touch of a button the back of the remote slid up and a second set of buttons were revealed and with a touch of a button the wall turned into a large monitor.
“We already knew about the cameras around the school” Marty said sounding sarcastic.
“I know you know about the surveillance equipment but we’ll be using it today” Murdoch answered in his usual cheery but firm tone.
“What will we be using them for?” Asked Merrill sounding overly eager.
The rest of the class laughed.
“We’ll be using them to identify human emotions” Murdoch answered waiting for a reaction.
“How are we going to do that?” Asked Karl.
“We are going to watch the day school students and you are going to tell me what emotions you think they are feeling” Murdoch replied.
“And how are we supposed to do that?” asked Drew. “There are no cameras in the rooms for us to see the students and if there was, there all asleep what good would it do us?”
Drew made a fair point thought the rest of them so they turned to Dr. Murdoch for an answer.
“Good point Drew” Murdoch replied his tone not changing. “But we are not going to watch the students at this time. You all know this device can rewind. Well it also records.”
He pointed the remote towards the monitor and with the push of a few buttons they were now watching the day students on what looked like the last day before the end of last semester. There was lots of hugging and kissing and a few were crying.
“Now let’s begin” said Dr. Murdoch. “Karl you go first, what emotions is this women showing?”
Karl looked up to see a young brunette girl hugging two other girls smiling but nearly in tears. “Happiness.” Karl answered.
“Why is that?” Murdoch asked.
“She is getting to go home and see her family and she is getting time away from school.”
“Well done” Dr. Murdoch said with a grin “Anything else?”
“Sadness” Karl said.
“And why is that?”
“She’s going to miss her friends while she’s gone.”
“Excellent well done Karl.”
Karl let out a grin and exposed all of his teeth.
“Yeah well done Karl” said Marty smugly “Happy and uh.....sad Merrill’s pet rat could have given us those answers.”
Essie, Merrill and Drew started laughing uncontrollably. Karl lost his grin and glared at Marty who was doing a dumb voice in an impression of Karl.
“That’s enough Marty” said Dr. Murdoch and the laughing ceased. “If you think it is so easy try this one.
Marty looked up at the screen as Murdoch zoomed in on the blankest canvas in the room. A black haired boy just standing there showing no emotion. “Exhilarated” Marty said.
The others looked him feeling absolutely baffled. How could this guy be exhilarated? He looked though they could bare there fangs right in his face and he wouldn’t even move.
“Oh really explain then to me Marty how?” Dr. Murdoch folded his arms and looked at Marty intently.
“With pleasure” Marty said as he sat up in his chair. “He’s exhilarated because that look is just an act so a girl will think he looks lonely and will come over and hug him and when she does he’s going to cop a feel.”
“Fascinating Marty” said Dr Murdoch.
“Thank you.”
“Anyway let’s move on, Drew you have a go your the gifted writer.”
“Okay then” Drew replied as he sat up in his chair.
Everybody else apart from Marty sat up they wanted to see who Professor Murdoch would pick and how Drew would describe them.
“Here we go then” said Dr. Murdoch as he zoomed the camera in on a familiar face.
It was Dillan. Drew’s face stiffened as he saw her face come into view. Her features stood out because of her shoulder length fiery red hair. She was staring at the floor in her own little world. This made Drew smile. She snapped back when a familiar face came up next to her. It was Mimi Sherry’s old best friend and now Dillan’s. She put down her bag and hugged Dillan. When she pulled herself away Dr. Murdoch spoke.
“Well Drew what do you think?”
“Well um...” Drew was lost for words. Everyone was looking at him. That’s when he noticed it Dillan was staring directly at Mimi’s neck. He wondered what was going on then as Mimi walked away Dillan tilted her head and he saw her eyes. They were Crimson red, but the second this registered in his head they reverted back to their original colour when Dillan was tapped on the back by Malcolm. An old friend of Sherry’s. He kissed her on the cheek and hugged her and picked up his bag and walked away.
“Drew, you awake.”
Drew heard Essie’s voice and that brought him back to the present. “Rewind it” he almost shouted.
“Why?” asked Essie.
“You didn’t just see that?” asked Drew to everyone.
“See what?” asked Karl.
“Just rewind it Dr. Murdoch”
The teacher rewound it till Drew told him to stop. When he stopped everybody saw it Dillan’s eyes. They were the colour of vampires. Nobody could believe it at first. Drew was praying it wasn’t true after all he had been through with her and so did Karl it was his fault this was happening he thought.
“Dr. how could this have happened?” asked Merrill.
“I honestly have no idea” he replied.
And they were all silent.
