Ok, so I've been watching this new show on Living TV called Blood Ties and I'm lovin it, so I thought I'd share it with the group Rather than formulate my own synopsis and subsequently miss something vital out (lol), here's the overview from tv.com (all credit obviously goes to the original writers): "Based on the novels by Tanya Huff, this show revolves around PI Vicki Nelson - formerly a detective with the Metropolitan Toronto Police. She was losing her sight, but quit the force rather than accept a desk job. However, her last case turns out to be a doozy, involving vampires and the supernatural. She decides to team up with a vampire named Henry and ex-lover Mike Celluci to battle the forces of evil both normal and paranormal. Shot in Canada (and set to debut on Canadian TV later this year), "Blood Ties" stars Christina Cox ("The Chronicles of Ridthingy") as cop-turned-private investigator Vicki Nelson, who witnesses a murder that she believes to be the work of a serial killer. After the victim's girlfriend (Gina Holden, "Reunion") hires her, though, she comes to believe that the killer might not be entirely of this world. Vicki's investigation leads her to a vampire named Henry (Kyle Schmid, "Beautiful People"), who's an illegitimate son of Henry VIII, who becomes her partner both professionally and romantically. That doesn't sit will with Vicki's ex (Dylan Neal, "Dawson's Creek"), who's also working the case. Peter Mohan ("Mutant X") created "Blood Ties" and executive produces with Kirk Shaw, Randy Zalken and Marshall Kesten" It's a bit like Anita Blake from what I can gather - which is definitely not a bad thing! If anyone wants to know, it is on Living TV on Thursdays at 8pm (though the first few episodes have already aired). Definitely not to be missed

Ahh, I spotted this when I was doing my weekly trawl through the TV guides but didn't actually get a chance to watch it.
Just this afternoon I've got my Sky system working again so methinks this might be on my preferred viewing list along with Vampire High (when its on), Ideal, Primeval (when series 2 starts) and others. ;D
This sounds so good! I'm sure it'll be as popular as VH among us vamp fans, eh? *lol* Cheers for mentioning it to us, Mad! 'Lissa.

I saw the pilot for this and was instantly hooked. I just loved the relationship between Henry and Vicki and how they clicked and accepted each other right away.
Unfortunately, while there was character development, I didn't find it that satisfying. Even though it did progress, there seemed to be something missing. By the end of the season it almost felt as if all the characters could go their separate ways, and none of them would be that broken up about it. The relationship between Mike and Henry showed the most growth and change, but that wasn't the heart of the show.
I also felt like it was assumed that everyone watching would find Henry extremely attractive, and this was expected to carry a lot of the plot/action surrounding the character. By the final episode I was finding him arrogant and irritating. If only his coolness had been downplayed.
The stand out moment, outside the pilot episode, was a guest starring slot by Steve Bacic as a dead/possessed crooked undercover cop, and that was more because I simply like the guy a lot, than because the plot was better in that particular ep than others. Maybe I'll feel differently after I watch the show again, but right now the main emotion I associate with Blood Ties is immense disappointment.
It received 10 more episodes after the initial 12 (like 2 halves of season one, although they're listed as season one & 2), but I can't see any mention of further episodes. It'll be a shame if it doesn't return, 'cos I'm still hoping for redemption.

Fair enough! I agree with you on some points - especially about Henry coming across as quite arrogant in some episodes (though I found him to be more like this near the beginning of the series). Having rewatched the episodes on DVD it's easier to pick out the faults, and I feel pretty much the same way about it now as I do about Vampire High actually; both of them are great shows with a heck of a lot of potential.
Apparently there is a murmur that there may be more Blood Ties episodes to come - I'm keeping my fingers tightly crossed!

It should be available in Zavvi shops and from zavvi.co.uk as that's where I bought my DVD set from a few months ago (I think it was around January time)...there are no special features on it, it's a 'bare bones' release really but the important thing is that all the episodes are there lol. Its about £35 or something, which is pretty good value!

I just watched the pilot on Lifetime's website this morning. Really pleasntly surprised. It was well written and all the cast was great in their roles. It'll take me a while to watch all of it but I'm definitely planning to.

Yaaay, another BT fan!! ;D I'm positive you'll enjoy the rest of the episodes, I think the episodes 1 and 2 were actually the weakest in the whole show (more than likely as the actors were still finding their feet ) - from then on it just keeps getting better and better

Here in the states I have watched every episode they've made so far. I really ended up loving it. I understand what everyone was saying and I feel 100% that the show just needs more time to develop. The Lifetime Network apparently dropped it b/c even though there is love story there, the Network felt it was too scifi and maybe not concervative enough for their tastes; which is invertably lame. I just hope that the show won't fall by the wayside just b/c it lost its spot on a US network.....

Bad news I'm afraid...apparently the show's star, Christina Cox (who plays Vicki Nelson) has confirmed at an expo in London that there will be no more Blood Ties ...what a pity! But at least we have all the virtual season 2s out there - speaking of which, I'll link to the virtual season page I'm working on with a load of others once it's all up and running, so watch this space! I'm still about it though...

Us vampire fans just have to realize things we wish to stay around never really do. But look at Vampire High, 6 years later and here we are still watching and talking about it!
