A lot of people seem to have heard of the Anita Blake stories, written by Laurell K. Hamilton, so I thought I'd start a thread about them. Well, I sked for a section on books - it'd be silly not to use it!
For the uninitiated, Anita is a necromancer (she raises the dead as zombies) working for a private company. Oh, and, in her spare time, she slays problem vampires for the Government. Dealing with everything from rogue killer vampires, warring clans of lycanthropes, displaced demons and other mythologcal creatures, Anita has lots more than legal matters to deal with.
She doesn't raise the dead for fun or anything. If there are quibbles over the clauses in a Last Will And Testament, or if a grieving relative has a matter of great importance to discuss with a late loved one, fora modest fee, Anita will raise them. Well, her fee would be modest. Her boss has other ideas and repeatedly overcharges. *lol*
For someone like me who loves the monsters and myths of all different peoples, the series of books is brilliant. Though if there is one criticism I have, its that in all the ones I've read so far (the first five or six books, I think), the danger is always described as far greater than in the previous book. Surely there are only so many near-death experiences which can be thrust upon this unfortunate lady! *lol*
Y'know, I'd love to see these made into movies!
Has anyone read these books? Does anyone wanna talk about 'em? C'mon now, don't make me beg! *lmao*
