I must admit even 5 months ago, I guess I wasn't so thrilled about the show: I could take or leave it. Sure, I used to watch way back when (Pater Davison is my Doctor) and I saw the movie in '96. I was a fan of Christopher Eccleston before he became the Doctor, but I didn't watch the show when it first ran on BBC1. I saw it over Christmas when it ran in daily repeats and loved every second.
Since The Christmas Invasion, I have been absolutely gagging for the new series. David Tennant is already fantastic as the Doctor, and it looks like he's going to live up to the hype very nicely. I like his humour, not to mention his dress sense. The first ep was great, and was followed by Doctor Who Confidential on BBC3, which is a very nice look behind the scenes.
I can't wait for next week now! Oh by the way, 'Lissa - next weeks ep involves some werewolves. Should be good!

As you can probably tell from my nickname, avatar and location, I am a HUGE Doctor Who fan and have been for as long as I can remember. I used to watch the original series with my family back in the 80's (showing my age there). I was so thrilled when I found out that it was coming back a couple of years ago, but was very disappointed with Christopher Ecclestone as the Doctor, as well as some of the changes that Russell T Davies had introduced. After last nights episode however, all may well be forgiven. David Tennant was excellent, he IS the Doctor as far as I'm concerned, although I was silently hoping he'd get the part ever since I saw him in Casanova. He and Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor are just so sexy. Yes, next weeks episode looks fabulous, werewolves and Victoriana, I shall be in Heaven.

Thanks Rararhade! I'm there!!! Arrrrrroooooo!! You really are a lil lech, aren't you, timeladyshayde! Heh! Nothing wrong in that! *smiles guiltily at timeladyshayde* Sorry, hunny, but I have to admit, I'd never been a fan of Doctor Who but I've loved Christopher Eccleston since I saw him on "The Second Coming" so I had to watch some of last season, though. And yup, it looks like David Tennant is living up to the role admirably! I caught the end of the ep after I got home from work (it looked interesting - despite me having no clue what was happening! *lol* So sad at the end....was it meant to be?) The New Doctor is so gleeful! I love it! *sets her video recorder and waits eagerly for the werewolf episode* 'Lissa

*waves a hand in the air then bows deeply to superior knowledge* Oh oh! Timeladyshayde, I have a question about Doctor Who! I heard somewhere (don't ask where, 'cause I seem absorb globlets of info from the maddest places) that the Doctor is only supposed to have seven incarnations - but there seems to have been many more actors playing the role. Is this lil globlet true? *chants softly under her breath "Werewolf! Werewolf! Werewolf!"*

Ahaha!! Sorry, yeah, here in the UK it started last week.....I lost where you were for a while, Min, sorry! * @ herself. lol* Hopefully it won't take too long to be transmitted in Canada, though. It'll be a case of keeping an eye out for the ads for it, I guess. Is Doctor Who really popular in Canada, that you know of? 'Lissa.

I'm gonna try and answer your question 'Lissa, but don't take it as fact. I'm kinda new to the ins and outs of the show (come on UK Gold, show the series from episode one, already!). I think I heard somewhere - it might have been the 1996 movie - that the Doctor has 13 separate incarnations. As for transmission dates in the US and Canada, I think I remember seeing something along those lines on the BBC website: www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho. It should be in the 'news' section somewhere. (Lots of very cool wallpapers on that site too!) I'm so looking forward to tonight. I'm amazed at myself - I've only watched last week's ep once. Shocking. Confidential was fab too. I haven't watched last year's Confidential series yet. I can feel a 2005 series/Confidential marathon coming on. _____ Rhade! Rhade! Ra, ra, ra!

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Two words to decribe the second episode! FREAKING AWESOME!!! Sorry, thats not my usual turn of phrase, but I can't beileve that one episode of a TV series can do so much more for the werewolf genre than the last five werewolf movies I've seen! Absolutely fantastic! I agree with the Doctor (how cool is Mr. Tennant?!)! The wolf is beautiful! Dontcha just wanna snuggle that gorgeous wolf to bits?! Uh......just me for the wolf-snuggling duties then? *lol* Ahem...sorry, I'm just getting the wolf-rush out of my system. But that was absolutely brilliant! Queen Victoria is so cool, too! It could make you look at history diferently, thats for sure! *giggles madly* I just wish I could tape the Doctor Who Confidential thing, too. But, alas, I'm taping "Greg The Bunny" instead as a part of my Seth Green collection. Yeah, I know I said somewhere that I rarely collect more than one actor's work at a time, but, um, sometimes, I can't help myself. After all...its Seth and a hand puppet! Hehe! Heh! Thanks for the info, Rararhade!! I might have misunderstood what I heard, then. Yeah, UKTv Gold has a wealth of back episodes of Doctor Who to transmit when its ready. . *shakes head to herself* Gawd, that was a brilliant ep! Did they ever do a vampire episode? Wow, think what could they create for that legend!? *smiles wickedly* 'Lissa.

Werewolves and vampires have long been part of the Doctor Who universe. State of Decay, a Doctor Four adventure from the early Eighties is all about vampires, and The Greatest Show in the Galaxy a Doctor Seven story from 1988 has a werewolf in it. The Curse of Fenric, another Doctor Seven story, has vampiric mutated humans from Earth's far future (and is possibly one of the best Doctor Whos ever made in my opinion). Vampires and werewolves have also appeared in other Doctor Who media.
Goth Opera (Virgin Missing Adventure book) - Doctor Five Blood Harvest (Virgin New Adventure book) - Doctor Seven Wolfsbane (BBC book) - Doctors Four and Eight Vampire Science (BBC book) Doctor Eight Loups-Garoux (Big Finish audio) - Doctor Five Project Twilight (Big Finish audio) - Doctor Six Tooth and Claw (DW Magazine comic strip) - Doctor Eight
There may well be more, but these are the ones I'm familiar with. Basically vampires were beings from another universe and Rassilon (founder of Timelord society) let them through into ours by accident which resulted in a rather nasty war between the two species of immortals. There are rumours that Rassilon himself was bitten, but no one knows for sure...

Well Really I don't know who else in Canada watches it but it must be popular because it'll air here again in the new season. I look out for it.

timeladyshayde: Wow, there's so much to choose from. *gets an wicked lil glint in her eye* Niiiice backstory for the introduction of vampires, too! Timelords Vs Vampires, eh? Thankyou for the information there, hunny! I'll have a look around and see what episodes I can find on SKY Tv. "Fenris"? The literal translation is, in Celtic, wolf? It rings a bell because a dear friend of mine in the US has a character in her stories called Fenris and she told me all about him once. Wow, I really need to revisit those stories.....I'm wandering off topic again, sorry! Hehe! Minpetella: So there's something else to look out for! Doctor Who and VH. Hehe! So, do you get the old Doctor Who episodes in Canada, along with the more recent additions? 'Lissa.

First of all, during all the promo leading up to the start of the new show, someone (it may have been Mr Tennant himself) said there has never been a werewolf in the show before. But I could have sworn I vaguely remembered something werewolf-like in Doctor Who way back when. So, Timeladyshayde, you have proved this to be so. I think that is the ep I get a vision of watching when I think about the classic series. I'll have to find a copy!
I loved this ep, Tooth & Claw. (Then again, I just have to hear the theme tune and I go into a kind of Doctor Who high, so it would take a particularly bad episode to bring me down!) I really liked the lighting, particularly when The Doctor and Rose meet the royal party. I liked the split screen where The Doctor presses his ear to the wall, and the wolf is on the other side. And when the Doctor licks the wall. And with the telescope: "It's a bit rubbish..." The man has class, and I think his enthusiasm may be even more contagious than Chris' was in last year's series.
Also, the BBC website is doing a bang up job: episode specific wallpapers after each episode has aired. My hard drive is rapidly filling with images of The Doctor.
Now, the next episode... bring it on! I am ready!

*lmao* Your poor hard drive, Rararhade! ;D Sounds like the situation mine, actually...though not pics of the Doctor. This saturday's ep brings K9 back, apparently, so that could be fun! Wonder how they can have updated him! Yeah, a Doctor Who novice I may be, but I remember K9. 'Lissa
